Missives

My birthday has reminded me that, although the idea was never lost or far away, giving and receiving letters through the mail is one of those things I enjoy in this world. Letter writing, of course, dies a little more each day. Email, text messages, Facebook, and blogs are all to blame, but the biggest culprit might as well be laziness.

Writing a letter may be one of the rare gifts that really are better to give than to receive. Blanton would probably say that it helps one’s soul to grow. Writing a letter to a friend, or to anyone for that matter, is a very personal and intimate activity. The letter has the power of one’s words, but are also better thought out, and organized, thus more powerful and affective than any rant or speech. It also has the ability to be read over and over by the receiver. If you ever need to tell someone something important but cant, write them a letter. It might damn well solve all of your problems.

On the other hand, letters can be a wonderfully casual activity, but still hold a more personal touch than an email, or Facebook message. Write a quick note, mail it off, and watch the magic of the USPS before your eyes.

I received some great letters this past week and will be returning the favor soon.

The physical activity makes letter writing great, too. Folding the paper, putting it into an envelope, licking it (sometimes very sexily ) carefully placing the stamp, giving it to the mailman, and waiting by the mailbox for a couple weeks for a response, it may just remind you of the good old days, if there ever were such days.

Go ahead write me a letter if you’d like:

If you would like to write to Jacqui Weber, the address is the same.
